Welcome to the Jungle Birthday Cake

Earlier in the year, I donated a gift voucher to the fabulous Room to Read organisation for their annual wine gala.
So much money was raised from their silent auctions on the evening - I was proud to be a part of such a successful event.
So it now came time for me to ante up and redeem this voucher.
The cake requested was a birthday cake for a young man on his 7th birthday.
His party was held at Little Dynamos Playcentre in Waterloo in their jungle room.
The cake concept was given as a jungle theme as Cole recently took part in the school play as a hippo, with his mates as the giraffe, lion, elephant, monkey and rat.
From this, I created the following design to reinact "Welcome to the Jungle".

The hippo is the "star" of the cake!
He is carved styrofoam and covered in fondant and given a watery sheen with piping gel.
The water is royal icing.

The palm trees are also carved and covered styrofoam. This was required for stability.
The giraffe's body and head are also covered styrofoam.

The lion holds the birthday sign.

Elephant spraying water into the watering hole.

Happy 7th Birthday Cole.
:)
