A Floral & Dragonfly Christening Cake & Cupcakes

I have had the priviledge of working with this wonderful family on many different occasions and the Christening of their new daughter Isabella was no different.

Margarita came to see me with her inspiration for the cake - her invitations and colour scheme. The invitations were beautiful in peach and ivory tones with a simple cherry blossom motif and it was wrapped in a peach coloured gauze and sealed with a dragonfly.

Margarita also loved the christening cake I made for Noah. So with these two things in mind - I designed this cake to meld the two ideas into cake reality.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cake and to me it is girly without being sickly girly. So elegant for the occasion and definitely has that WOW factor.

The entire cake is a white chocolate and raspberry mud cake with white chocolate ganache.

Everything is completely handmade and edible. The birdcage is completely handmade also.

The lunch was held at the beautiful Le Montage on the water in Leichhardt.

The cake ..... with a view!

The cage. All the sugar leaves were sculpted together to create a nest for the cage. Inside the cage is a handmade peach sugar peony with some peach and white berries. The berries are my favourite!

Just because I liked this shot! ;)

The cherry blossom tree on the extended middle tier. The cherry blossoms stood out and gave a 3rd dimension to the 2d branches. Each blossom had peach coloured stamens.

The bottom and 1st tier actually look like one - made just so! The bottom tier represented the gauze wrapping of the invitations. I acheived this look by embossing the fondant with the actual gauze. Then a sugar dragonfly to tie off the look. The 1st tier is completely covered in ivory shimmered blossoms.

The view from the back.

Looking through the floral arrangements.

The table centrepieces. The same gauze from the invitations is wrapped around the vases and the dragonfly is centrepiece also.

To match the cake, 50 individually boxed cupcakes were made as bomboniere for the kids. I kept the dragonfly decoration simple and completely edible for the kids. The wings and bubbly dragonfly bodies were all shimmery. All the cupcakes were white chocolate and raspberry mudcakes.

Lined up and ready for kiddie delight!
Congratulations on your Christening day Isabella and May God always Bless You!
