Daffodils Cake for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

This cake was made for my son's schools Biggest Morning Tea being held tomorrow. It is being donated as a raffle prize at the breakfast tomorrow morning.

I have wanted to do a pot of flowers for a long time and this was the most opportune moment!

The pot is the cake and it is a white chocolate raspberry mud cake with white chocolate ganache. The dirt is oreo biscuits and the daffodils and leaves are all completely handmade from fondant.

Such a worthwhile cause, I hope it raises a lot of money!

Congratulations Room to Read ........ with a cake!

I have been affiliated with the very worthwhile charity Room to Read for some time now and their work is extraordinary and benefits to children in developing countries is magnificent.   Read more about Room to Read here.

This is my 12 hour turnaround cake!   The lovely Jennie of Room to Read is a tireless lady who does so much work for this wonderful cause that I would always try and make room to do something back - even if it means late night baking and last minute decorating!

Last weekend, Room to Read Australia hosted their annual wine gala and raised over $1 million dollars for this wonderful cause!   Jennie wanted to thank the wonderful volunteers that helped make the event happen.  She wanted something sweet to take with her to celebrate and it was also one of the deciated volunteers birthdays.

The cake is a lemon poppyseed cake with lemon scented buttecream.   The books and cupcake were all handmade by me and were carved and covered styrofoam.   I made the cupcake at the last minute, especially for the birthday gal!

Congratulations Room to Read on all your fantastic work and Happy Birthday Margaret!

Hollywood Themed Donation Cake

Last Saturday night, my son's school held its annual Trivia Night and it was a lot of fun!

As well as being alot of fun, it is also one of the majot fundraiser's for the school for the year. One of the majot draws is a silent auction filled with wonderful prizes - this year we had a luxury car drive day, city food tours, fitness memberships, shopping expeditions and a highlight for me was the Uber Party Package Prize! Leanne from Sweet Style kindly donated a dessert buffet with printables package (prize in itself really) and included with that was a Blissfully Sweet cake voucher donated by moi! What a prize!

The night was Hollywood themed and so we wanted to find a fun way to dress up for the night and to make it unique and fun - no red carpet outfits for us!

So, along with my cake voucher, I made a display cake to showcase what can be done and to also match the theme of the night.

The "cake" is fondant covered styrofoam. With a little more time up my sleeve, my hubby had a brilliant idea to have Marilyn or Elvis juming out of the popcorn box (great idea, unfortunately idea was presented about 10 hours before delivery!). I think the end result was eye catching!

WARNING!!!
Then there were costumes - our table decided to go in the Wizard of Oz theme! I was a munchkin and Larry was the scarecrow - a very handsome scarecrow I have to admit! Although he drew the line at getting his face painted! :}

and our table - the Wicked Witch, scarecrow, munchkin, Dorothy and Toto, the Lion, the Tinman, boy munchkin, Glinda the good witch, an elf guard and the Wizard!

Such a fun night and alot of money raised for our school - good news all round!

A Construction Birthday Cake for a Worthy Cause

If we are lucky, we meet people, or talk to people, or hear a story, that touch you. This is one of those stories.

Kristie contacted me a little while ago to talk about her eldest daughter's upcoming birthday as well as to get some ideas for her just about to be born baby's Christening (yes, she is organised). In the midst of these discussions, Kristie spoke to me about a very special 3rd birthday that she was holding for her son Lachlan.

About 6 months ago, while going about usually mummy things, Kristie was loving being pregnant with her 3rd child and life was great. One night while resting at home with her family, her son Lachlan was resting on her lap when he all of a sudden stopped breathing. After, as you can imagine, a very agonised time to get to the hospital, a new piece of machinery saved Lachlan's life. The machinery was provided to the hospital by the wonderful Humpty Foundation.

Everyday, Kristie thanks God for the wonderful work that Humpty does and is now a advocate for the Foundation.

Kristie decided to do what she could, so she planned her son's 3rd birthday and in lieu of presents, everyone was asked to make a donation to the Humpty Foundation.

The party was a roaring success and Lachlan had so much fun, and Kristie was overjoyed to see her son HEALTHY, happy and also happy to be able to help with wonderful cause.

With the help of Lachlan's generous family and friends, the birthday party raised pver $3,500 for the charity which will go towards the purchase of much needed medical equipment.

For more information on the Humpty Foundation click here. While you are there and if you can, make a donation and make a difference.

Onto the cake!

A special cake was commissioned for such a special event and it was to take pride of place on the dessert table that Kristie had organised.

This construction themed cake was made and it was a HIT! All the objects are handmade. The digger and truck and carved and covered styrofoam. Everything else is completely edible.

Pink & White Roses Cake for Mothers Day

This cake is a voucher redemption for a donation I made for a local dance studio.

I was happy to make a cake to celebrate beautiful mums on their special day.

The recipient requested a simple square cake with some pink and white roses. She was ecstatic with the result.

The cake is a vanilla cake layered and filled with white chocolate ganache.

Quite vintage looking .... so in keeping with this I added and dusty pink lace ribbon! Finished it off nicely!

Happy Mothers Day!

Chip n Dale Birthday Cake

Back at the beginning of the year, my hubby's work decided to do a fundraising drive for the flood affected victims in Brisbane and Melbourne. They raffled off a heap of prizes and raised approx. $3,500. I donated a Blissfully Sweet voucher and this is the prize!

The winner David just wanted a small cake for his partner's birthday and all he knew was that his partner had always loved Chip n Dale, the chipmunks!

This is the result! The acorn is the cake and it a chocolate mud cake, filled and covered with chocolate ganache.

Blissfully Sweet does Bandaged Bear Day 2011

March is the official month for the annual Bandaged Bear Appeal.

This year I was very pleased and honoured to be asked to be the exclusive cake supplier for Bandaged Bear Day.

This is such a worthy charity that has touched nearly every one of us in some way. What better way to put a smile on people's faces than with cakes and cookies!

So .... for the day I got busy to whip up some treats.

300+ bear paw print cookies were made (and hand decorated and individually wrapped).

250 vanilla and chocolate cupcakes (all completely nut free) all topped with handmade bear paw print toppers.

All monies raised from the sale of the cakes and cookies went directly to the Bandaged Bear Appeal.

The week of the appeal, our local newspaper the Northern District Times, ran a little story on me! Liam was very proud to see him mummy in the paper and I quickly ran out and got an arm full of copies! Best part of this was that there was even more awareness of this wonderful cause.

The newspaper article. You can read it online here.

Set up in the foyer of Westmead Children's Hospital with beautiful hospital staff selling the treats! The vanilla and chocolate cupcakes The paw print cookies.
and a Bandaged Bear for display (fondant covered styrofoam).

What a wonderful day and one that will stay with me for a while to come.

Happy Bandaged Bear Day to everyone! :o)

Room to Read Wine Gala 2011 Cake Donations

I have been involved with the global charity Room to Read for a number of years now and I am constantly uplifted by the wonderful work this charity performs. For more information on this wonderful cause, click here.
This year, I again donated a Blissfully Sweet Cake Voucher into their silent auction and to place as a display on the auction table, I put together a very simple cake tower.
This past month has been one of the busiest ever (seems that I need to say this EVERY month now, but fortunately it is very true!). Anyway .... this past month left no time for much at all, and I did initially plan to have more as a display, but alas this simple tower had to do!
The tower did its job though .... on the evening the Wine Gala as a whole raised $892,000!
So many more libraries and schools as well as scholarships are now underway.
