Ruffled Blooms & Rocking Horse Christening Cake

Beautiful little Siena-Rose celebrated the Christening day today and this ruffley number took centre stage on the cake table.

Siena's mum loved my previous "Isla" cake but we made a few changes. The bottom extended tier was covered in an ombre of pink ruffled blooms and the top tier was given a shiny lustre treatment. The little handmade rocking horse sat a top the entire creation.

All decorations are handmade by myself and completely edible.

The bottom tier is vanilla with raspberry swirl cake with white chocolate ganache and the top tier is vanilla/chocolate marble cake with dark chocolate ganache.

The celebration lunch was held at the gorgeous Pappardellerestaurant in Haberfield. For those of you in Sydney - you may remember Joe from Stars at Gigis. He was a mainstay on the Darling Street strip for many, many years. Pappardelle is his new venture and I cannot wait to get there myself to eat his wonderful food once again!

May God Always Bless You Siena-Rose!

Tool Box Birthday Cake

This cake was made for an extra special person! John, my old next door neighbour, feels like a part of our family also. When I was asked to make a cake for his 60th, I automatically thought of a tool box - because he is the handiest handy man around! He is oft times off doing odd jobs for me when the time arises and he is the salt of the earth! Cannot speak highly enough of this family!

So onto the cake. I wanted the actual tool box, to have a vintage wood feel to it. All the panels and cross bar were given a hand painted wood look to achieve this. Then there were the tools .... I started and kept going! The oily rag on the side of the box was a last minute addition, as well as the crumbled up paper as the birthday message.

The cake is chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache. Everything is completely hand moulded by me and completely edible, except the cross bar, which is fondant covered styrofoam.

Every handy man needs a tape measure

The crumpled up paper as the birthday message was a last minute addition.

Nuts, bolts and screwdriver

I am bad with the right names - a shifter (?), hammer and pliers.

More nuts & bolts as well as a phillips head screwdriver and paint scraper.

Even an oily rag made its way into the tool box.

A couple of spanners.

Ready for any handy job required.

Happy 60th Birthday John!

Money, Money, Money Themed Cakes & Treats

This cake and treats were made as centrepieces for a money, money, money themed table styled by the fabulous Events By Nat.

Natalie always has wonderfully creative ideas and this table was made for her sister's birthday. Her sis is a financial planner and this was such an appropriate theme for her.

Nat gave me the brief and told me just to make up some treats please and a cake!

First order was the cake. I knew that Nat's backdrop would be amazing, so kept the cake design minimal and clean. The bottom extended tier is simply covered in an edible image. The fantastic dollar design image was created by Nicole at Pretty and Print. The top tier I focussed on gold and gold coins. Gold circle outlines covered the entire tier and it was all given a golden lustre treatment. I decided on the black dollar sign at the last moment.

The black milk glass cake stand is by Sweet Style.

The table was today featured on the Amy Atlas Events blog - see the link below:

A Rainbow Rufflicious Birthday Cake

Lina from Chanele Rose Flowers & Events asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday this weekend. All I was told was it was rainbow theme and "do what you want"! Yippee!

My love of ruffles is widely known, but I wanted to try my hand at some rainbow ruffles! Let the ruffle marathon begin!

I ruffled the sides and thought it would be cool to do the top also! Loved that effect! Then when I was done, I sat back and thought it needed something a little more on top! Rainbow ruffled pom pom balls was called for!!!

Such a fun and bright cake and Lina saw it and teared up - hands down best reaction!!

Happy Birthday Chanele!

Cute as a Button Birthday Cake

This is a blast from the past - 6 months past to be exact!

Nicole from Pretty and Print ordered this cake for her daughter Tahlia's 1st birthday back in February.

Nicole had designed the cutest ever invitations for this "Pie" and buttons themed party. The little character is an actual character called Pie and Tahlia loves her little Pie a lot! This cake was designed based off Nicole's invitations.

The party, which was so beautifully styled by Nicole, along with my cake is featured in the winter edition of My little jedi out today!

Happy 1st Birthday Tahlia!

Vintage Record Player Birthday Cake

This cake was made for a special friend of mine as a surprise. Jana is a beautiful lady that I am very lucky to call a friend. Last weekend a group of ladies, including Jana, travelled down to Bowral for our annual ladies weekend away. Jana is turning 40 later this month and we wanted to do something to celebrate.

Jana works in the music industry and is PASSIONATE about everything to do with music! A vintage record platter was the first thing that came to mind when thinking of a cake.

I kept the cake detail to a minimum and used a faux wood grain panel for the record player and silver as the detail in all the components. Apart from the arm of the record player and the turn table and pedestal (which have inedible components), the rest is all handmade and edible.

This cake was a huge surprise for Jana at a special dinner we had on Saturday evening. She was blown away and loved it. I have never laughed so hard as I did on Saturday night! I love these Bowral ladies!

The cake is a carrot/walnut cake with white chocolate ganache.

Happy 40th Jana!

Roll up, Roll up Carnival Themed Birthday Cake

Such a pleasure to deal with lovely clients who have faith in trying something a little different! My lovely client Tash, initially wanted one of my previous circus themed cakes, but with little to no persuasion, I managed to sell her a different idea.

Carnival to me, means rides and lots of ride tickets! The bottom double barrelled tier is completely covered in ride token tickets. These were beautifully designed by Nicole from Pretty and Print and then printed as an edible image.

The top tier is the vintage carousel tier. The beautiful vintage blue, matched with the rich reds and lots of ornate golden touches gave this tier the old vintage look.

The carousel is a hand carved cone and base from styrofoam then covered in the traditional ride and white of these rides. Little circus animals take a ride on the carousel ..... the shaggy, retro looking lion, the trick loving elephant and the impish looking monkey. Tash also wanted to incorporate a clown, so he was the master of the cake and took pride of place out the front!

Everything is handmade on this by me. The carousel top and bottom is the only inedible part. All animals and the clown and moulded from fondant.

From top to bottom this cake is HUGE. It is 24" in height!

The bottom tier is white chocolate raspberry mud cake with white chocolate ganache and the top tier is vanilla sponge cake with white chocolate ganache.

The carousel

The circus animals - the shaggy/retro lion, the tricky elephant and the impish monkey!

The gold embossed name plaque

The master of ceremonies - the clown!

and some colour matched desserts to go with!

Sprinkled pretzels

Dipped marshmallow pops

Happy Birthday Zayan!

A Power Crunch Birthday Cake

One of my lovely clients requested this cake for her hubby's business partner's birthday. Warren is apparently addicted to PowerCrunch protein bars, so he got his own super sized and maybe slightly more carb loaded PowerCrunch bar!

I scanned the actual wrapper of the bar and then had printed on edible images. I then added in the rest of the little details and as a last minute touch, made the bar look like it had been opened and taken a chunk out of! The actual protein bar looks a lot like the chocolate mud cake on the inside, however it is definitely the poor cousin on the taste side!

With the actual PowerCrunch wrapper!

Happy Birthday Warren!

Cowboy Themed Birthday Cake

One of my most loveliest clients came to see me about her son's upcoming birthday party. She had planned a Cowboys theme and just told me to "do what you do"! Love that!

First thing I thought about was cowboy jeans - always wanted to try my hand at that! I wanted the cake to be fun, colourful and just right for the party!

I gave the jean's a worn in look and used a pair of old jeans as my design inspiration. I wanted to include a ranch themed silver buckle also. The top tier was left quite plain with the cowhide look. I then wrapped a fondant paisley bandana (all hand painted) and topped the cake off with a cowboy hat perched on the side as well as a lone cactus on top!I officially love this cake! Everything about it! It screams fun times to me!

The cake is chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache. Everything is completely handmade and edible.

Happy 2nd Birthday Ashton!

Daffodils Cake for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

This cake was made for my son's schools Biggest Morning Tea being held tomorrow. It is being donated as a raffle prize at the breakfast tomorrow morning.

I have wanted to do a pot of flowers for a long time and this was the most opportune moment!

The pot is the cake and it is a white chocolate raspberry mud cake with white chocolate ganache. The dirt is oreo biscuits and the daffodils and leaves are all completely handmade from fondant.

Such a worthwhile cause, I hope it raises a lot of money!
