Pink & White Cupcake Set

This sweet little set of cupcakes with cutting cake was made for Valentina's Christening day.

Valentina's mum sent me a picture of the design that she was after (I do not know the original artist to credit). This was my interpretation of the design brief.

The top cutting cake was kept simple with a name plaque and little pink hat jewellery box on top. The set of cupcakes were a mix of embossed "V", bracelet, cross and jewellery box.

The cake and cupcakes are all vanilla and chocolate marble cake with dark chocolate ganache.

May God Bless You always Valentina!

A Rainbow Rufflicious Birthday Cake

Lina from Chanele Rose Flowers & Events asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday this weekend. All I was told was it was rainbow theme and "do what you want"! Yippee!

My love of ruffles is widely known, but I wanted to try my hand at some rainbow ruffles! Let the ruffle marathon begin!

I ruffled the sides and thought it would be cool to do the top also! Loved that effect! Then when I was done, I sat back and thought it needed something a little more on top! Rainbow ruffled pom pom balls was called for!!!

Such a fun and bright cake and Lina saw it and teared up - hands down best reaction!!

Happy Birthday Chanele!

Anthropology High tea Cake & Desserts

Natalie from Events By Nat recently styled an Anthropology themed high tea for the current winter issue of My little jedi magazine (available now).

Nat was shooting the high tea down in Bowral and obviously wanted to keep to the anthropology feel. Vintage was the name of the game and a colour palette of ivory, chocolate and shades of magenta was the design inspiration.

As the cakes and sweets design was left to me, I kept to a fairly classic, vintage feel to the desserts and concentrated on the vintage buttons that Nat used as well as some big blooms.

This was the cake as the centrepiece. Very simple and effective decoration of an oyster lustre finish and big ruffled blooms adorned the middle tier.

The centrepiece cake.

Cute as a Button Birthday Cake

This is a blast from the past - 6 months past to be exact!

Nicole from Pretty and Print ordered this cake for her daughter Tahlia's 1st birthday back in February.

Nicole had designed the cutest ever invitations for this "Pie" and buttons themed party. The little character is an actual character called Pie and Tahlia loves her little Pie a lot! This cake was designed based off Nicole's invitations.

The party, which was so beautifully styled by Nicole, along with my cake is featured in the winter edition of My little jedi out today!

Happy 1st Birthday Tahlia!

Vintage Record Player Birthday Cake

This cake was made for a special friend of mine as a surprise. Jana is a beautiful lady that I am very lucky to call a friend. Last weekend a group of ladies, including Jana, travelled down to Bowral for our annual ladies weekend away. Jana is turning 40 later this month and we wanted to do something to celebrate.

Jana works in the music industry and is PASSIONATE about everything to do with music! A vintage record platter was the first thing that came to mind when thinking of a cake.

I kept the cake detail to a minimum and used a faux wood grain panel for the record player and silver as the detail in all the components. Apart from the arm of the record player and the turn table and pedestal (which have inedible components), the rest is all handmade and edible.

This cake was a huge surprise for Jana at a special dinner we had on Saturday evening. She was blown away and loved it. I have never laughed so hard as I did on Saturday night! I love these Bowral ladies!

The cake is a carrot/walnut cake with white chocolate ganache.

Happy 40th Jana!

Roll up, Roll up Carnival Themed Birthday Cake

Such a pleasure to deal with lovely clients who have faith in trying something a little different! My lovely client Tash, initially wanted one of my previous circus themed cakes, but with little to no persuasion, I managed to sell her a different idea.

Carnival to me, means rides and lots of ride tickets! The bottom double barrelled tier is completely covered in ride token tickets. These were beautifully designed by Nicole from Pretty and Print and then printed as an edible image.

The top tier is the vintage carousel tier. The beautiful vintage blue, matched with the rich reds and lots of ornate golden touches gave this tier the old vintage look.

The carousel is a hand carved cone and base from styrofoam then covered in the traditional ride and white of these rides. Little circus animals take a ride on the carousel ..... the shaggy, retro looking lion, the trick loving elephant and the impish looking monkey. Tash also wanted to incorporate a clown, so he was the master of the cake and took pride of place out the front!

Everything is handmade on this by me. The carousel top and bottom is the only inedible part. All animals and the clown and moulded from fondant.

From top to bottom this cake is HUGE. It is 24" in height!

The bottom tier is white chocolate raspberry mud cake with white chocolate ganache and the top tier is vanilla sponge cake with white chocolate ganache.

Happy Birthday Zayan!

A Power Crunch Birthday Cake

One of my lovely clients requested this cake for her hubby's business partner's birthday. Warren is apparently addicted to PowerCrunch protein bars, so he got his own super sized and maybe slightly more carb loaded PowerCrunch bar!

I scanned the actual wrapper of the bar and then had printed on edible images. I then added in the rest of the little details and as a last minute touch, made the bar look like it had been opened and taken a chunk out of! The actual protein bar looks a lot like the chocolate mud cake on the inside, however it is definitely the poor cousin on the taste side!

With the actual PowerCrunch wrapper!

Happy Birthday Warren!

An Ampersand Wedding Cake

This cake was made for a couple who wanted a wedding cake a little bit different.

They wanted no flowers and to incorporate their wedding colours of yellow and shades of grey as well as the ampersand that was a feature on their wedding invitations.

The tiers were covered in a mosaic of grey shades and then the ampersand became the main feature!

Very vogue at the moment!

Congratulations Kim & Corey!

Cakes for LUXE Photo Shoot

A few months ago, I was asked by Lina of Chanele Rose Flowers to make some cakes for her upcoming LUXE photo shoot.

All I knew was that the theme was LUXE and the colour palette to be used was gold, silver, peach and ivory.    I felt very honoured that alongside my cakes, Patricia from Yummy Cupcakes was also asked to make a cake also.   I was a tad nervous as Patricia is my idol for all things cake, so I needed to think!

I decided to get my inspiration from the colour palette as well as from couture fashion.   To me, nothing screams luxe more than sequins, ruffles and stripes.

So, to the drawing board I went and this was the result!

My Sequinned Metallic Cake

Based on the colour scheme of the shoot, I wanted a cake that screamed LUXE! Metallics do that for me as well as couture elements like sequins, ruffles and stripes.

The first of my trio, was the sequinned cake. The background of the cake is peach metallic coloured and then it was pain stakingly covered in 3000+ tony fondant sequins and then hand painted. To see this cake shimmer in the light was a thing of beauty for me!

My Art Deco Inspired LUXE cake.

When thinking of this cake for the trio, I wanted a modern art deco type of cake, so to start I positioned the tiers to one side for a more modern feel. Then the extended bottom tier was covered in stripes going different ways and then all hand painted in metallic tones of gold, peach and ivory.

The top 2 tiers were left plain in a ivory metallic finish and then I included a metallic fan detail to cascade from the top.

The Romantic Ruffle Cake

I angst over the design of the 3rd cake and wanted to do a ruffle cake of some sort, but something different. I opted for a single wide ruffle that opened at the front to an ivory metallic base. The top tier was simple adorned with little ruffled blooms with gold shimmery centres.

More photos from the shoot will be released at a later date!

Cowboy Themed Birthday Cake

One of my most loveliest clients came to see me about her son's upcoming birthday party. She had planned a Cowboys theme and just told me to "do what you do"! Love that!

First thing I thought about was cowboy jeans - always wanted to try my hand at that! I wanted the cake to be fun, colourful and just right for the party!

I gave the jean's a worn in look and used a pair of old jeans as my design inspiration. I wanted to include a ranch themed silver buckle also. The top tier was left quite plain with the cowhide look. I then wrapped a fondant paisley bandana (all hand painted) and topped the cake off with a cowboy hat perched on the side as well as a lone cactus on top!I officially love this cake! Everything about it! It screams fun times to me!

The cake is chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache. Everything is completely handmade and edible.
